REVIEW: Weekend
of February 6th-7th
The ’01 Jr. Terriers picked up two of a possible four points
in this weekend’s action, losing to the talented South Shore
Kings 7-0 on Saturday only to bounce back on Sunday for a 5-3 win
over the Jr. Eagles. On Saturday, the Terriers faced off against
a tough Kings club and while the team had some chances, the outcome
of the game would not have been much different had they converted.
Sunday’s game was an up and down affair with the Eagles scoring
early in the first to go up 1-0. Jacob Clark (1g) evened the score
at 1-1 with an assist going to Herb Kopf who made a nice play down
low and Jacob buried the rebound. In the second period Jeff Pollara
had a beautiful goal splitting the Eagle defense and sniping his
breakaway opportunity. Pollara ended the day with two points (1g,
1a). In the end, Matthew Ryan (3g, 1a) was the difference maker
scoring a natural hat trick. Cullen Gallagher had a solid effort
and chipped in an assist as well. Last, the birthday boys –
Scott Vara (2a) and Aidan Flynn (1a) rounded out the scoring.
REVIEW: Weekend
of January 30th-31st
The ’01 Terriers split their weekend games, beating a tough
Westchester Express 4-2 on Saturday only to fall to the Bay State
Breakers 4-0 on Sunday. The Terriers played well all weekend with
solid puck movement and great effort throughout the lineup. In the
Westchester game, the team was led by Matthew Ryan (2g, 1a), Herb
Kopf (1g), and Jeff Pollara (1g). Adding assists were Michael Tyer
(2a), Peirce Kenney (2a), Cullen Gallagher (1a) and Jacob Clark
(1a). The game was tied 2-2 in the third period when Matthew Ryan
chipped in the go-ahead goal with 1:02 left. On the following face
off Jeff Pollara won the draw and beat the defense nine seconds
later to seal the game. Cam Giunta was solid in net and the team
defense was outstanding.
On Sunday, the Terriers lost to the Breakers 4-0. The Breakers scored
on the first shift of the game and then some spectacular saves by
the Breakers goalie kept the Terriers off the board. BSB continued
the pressure and pulled away from the Terriers as the game wore
on. Overall it was a well played game from both clubs with up and
down action.
REVIEW: Weekend
of January 23rd-24th
The ’01 Terriers defeated the New Hampshire Avalanche/Top
Gun 5-3 on Saturday at the Icenter in NH. Top Gun’s goalie
played very well and made three stops on breakaways while the Terriers
also hit a number of posts and missed a couple of open net opportunities.
Overall it was a frustrating day for the club but good to leave
with two points and the win. Pacing the Terriers on the score sheet
were Matthew Ryan (1g, 1a), Cullen Gallagher (1g), Michael Tyer
(1g), Scott Vara (1g) and Jeff Pollara (1g). Adding assists were
Liam McDonnell, Peirce Kenney, TJ Swirbalus, Tyler Morelli and Aidan
Flynn. The defense (Kenney, McDonnell, Flynn, Morelli and Ted Griffin)
played exceptionally well and led the team with hustle and effort.

of January 16th-January 17th
Led by spectacular goaltending by Cam Giunta, the ’01 Terriers
picked up three of a possible four points this weekend. Top to bottom
the team played strong two way hockey and entertained their legion
of fans with thrilling up and down hockey. Saturday saw Giunta make
31 stops against the talented ’01 Middlesex Islanders as he
backstopped the club to a 3-0 shutout. The Terriers first goal was
scored by Jacob Clark (1g) on a beautiful effort as he took a breakaway
feed from Jeff Pollara (1a). Clark scored as he was being hauled
down from behind but through strong determination he buried the
shot. Cullen Gallagher (1g) who was strong throughout the contest,
scored on a breakaway goal as well with assists from Matthew Ryan
(1a) and Aidan Flynn (1a). The Islanders continued to pressure the
Terriers but a deep forecheck by Michael Tyer (1a) led to a turnover
with Tyer setting up Scotty Vara (1g) to end the game.
Sunday was a great hockey game between the Bay State Breakers and
the Terriers. Both teams had opportunities but the goaltending was
excellent at both ends of the ice. The Breakers scored in the second
period to go up 1-0 but a determined Terriers team came back in
the third to tie up the game. On the equalizer, the Terriers were
shorthanded when Jacob Clark (1a) won a battle at the Terriers blue
line and chipped the puck to a streaking Jeff Pollara (1g). Pollara
went one on two and beat both defensemen before burying the puck
in the back of the net. The third period played out with great action
but neither team could break the 1-1 stalemate.
REVIEW:
On Sunday, the ’01 Terriers defeated the Bridgewater Bandits
by a final score of 6-3 in Bridgewater. The Terriers were led by
a Jacob Clark (2g), Scott Vara (1g, 1a) and Michael Tyer (1g, 1a).
The Terriers were short handed going into the contest but the team
responded well to the extra ice time and played a strong game with
excellent puck movement throughout the contest. Matthew Ryan and
Aidan Flynn rounded out the goal scorers for the Terriers. Jeff
Pollara added two assists.
REVIEW: Weekend
of December 13th-December 14th
The ’01 Terriers split the weekend taking a 10-1 victory over
Top Gun at the Dog Pound and dropping a hard fought decision to
a strong Westchester Express 3-1 on Sunday. On Saturday a shorthanded
Terriers squad was led by Matthew Ryan (5g, 1a), Matt Martin (1g,
2a), Peirce Kenney (1,g, 1a) and Scott Vara (1g, 1a), Liam McDonnell
(1g, 1a) and Aidan Flynn (1g). Rounding out the score sheet was
Herb Kopf (2a) and Cullen Gallagher (1a). The game was the Matthew
Ryan show as “Rhino” simply dominated from start to
finish, including an impressive display as a defenseman.
Sunday saw the Terriers battle a strong Westchester club, succumbing
to a final score of 3-1. Westchester scored single goals in the
first and second period only to see Jeff Pollara (1g) halve the
score in the second with an assist from Scott Vara (1a). The Terriers
had multiple chances to even things up but a late goal in the third
period sealed the Express victory. Top to bottom the Terriers competed
hard, won battles and gave the talented Westchester team a solid
game.

of December 5th-December 6th
Led by a terrific effort by Michael Tyer (1g, 1a), the ’01
Terriers tied the Middlesex Islanders at Volpe Arena on Sunday morning
5-5. Tyer was a model of hard work and effort, winning battles along
the boards, skating hard and crashing the net as he paced the Terriers
throughout. The game seesawed with BJT taking an early lead only
to be down 4-3 going into the third period. Matthew Ryan (2g, 1a)
scored a beautiful goal to knot the score at four, with an end-to-end
rush and exhibited his breakaway speed with the effort. MXI scored
to make it 5-4 with 2:28 left in the game but the Terriers answered
just 23 seconds later. On the tying goal, Aidan Flynn(1a) –
who had a terrific game – rushed down the left side and slide
the puck out front to a crashing Herb Kopf (1g). Scott Vara(1g)
also scored a scrappy goal on the doorstep in a scramble. In goal,
Mitchell Director played well for the Terriers filling in for Cam
Giunta.

of November 28th-November 29th
The 2001 Terriers picked up two of a possible four points this weekend.
On Saturday the Terriers came out flat against an undermanned Middlesex
Islanders team spotting MXI a 7-2 lead after two periods. Either
the Islanders ran out of gas or the Terriers finally skated off
their holiday turkey because the third period saw the Terriers put
up a good fight finally succumbing 7-6. Matthew Ryan (2g, 1a), Herb
Kopf(1g, 1a), Ted Griffin, Jeff Pollara and Max Ward all scored.
Assists were added by Cullen Gallagher, TJ Swirbalus, Peirce Kenney,
Michael Tyer and Tyler Morelli.
On Sunday a more engaged Terrier team faced off against a tough
Boston Jr. Eagles team with the Terriers coming out on top 7-5.
The Terriers built up a 6-2 lead but the Eagles kept coming back
to keep the game tight. Jeff Pollara (2g, 1a), Jacob Clark (1g,
1a), Scott Vara (1g, 1a) and Herb Kopf (1g, 1a) were the offensive
leaders on the day. Other goal scorers were Matthew Ryan and Matt
Martin. Adding assists were TJ Swirbalus, Mike Tyer and Aidan Flynn.
REVIEW: Weekend
of November 21st-22nd
The 2001 Boston Junior Terriers completed a very successful weekend
in Lake Placid, winning the championship game of the CAN/AM Tournament
Sunday afternoon 4-0 over Darien, CT. The Terriers started the weekend
with a 10-0 blanking of the 495 North Stars. Cullen Gallagher, Scott
Vara and TJ Swirbalus each had two goals to pace the club. On Friday
the Terriers beat Darien 2-1 in a game carried by the Terriers however
outstanding goaltending kept the game close. Saturday, the Terriers
handled the Greater Boston Vipers 6-0 and then in a tight battle
beat the Valley Junior Warriors 4-2. In the Warriors game, goal
tender Cam Giunta was outstanding, keeping a tired club alive with
some spectacular saves in the third period.
Sunday’s championship game was an impressive effort by a determined
Terriers club. Starting with a pre-game rendition of Herb Brooks
famous “Russia speech” delivered flawlessly by Max Ward,
a pumped up Terriers carried the championship game from the drop
of the puck. Matthew Ryan potted the hat trick and Jeff Pollara
added a late empty net goal to seal the victory. A great weekend
of hockey and family fun was had by the entire Terrier family.
Separately the Terriers shined in the skills competition with Cam
Giunta being named first runner up (goaltending) and Jeff Pollara
winning the shootout competition. Jeff put on a sizzling display
that included the spectacular completion of a “Texas Tornado”
that was the buzz of the tournament. Watch for Jeff’s goal
on You Tube – it was simply awesome and blew the roof off
the building. Last, Herb Kopf won a scholarship to a CAN/AM camp
by penning an essay about his love for hockey and how he continuously
strives to improve through hard work.
REVIEW: Weekend
of November 14th-15th
The ’01 Terriers split the weekend with a hard fought 4-3
victory over an inspired Bridgewater Bandits on Saturday. Leading
the Terriers were Jeff Pollara (2G, 1A) and Matthew Ryan (2G). Cullen
Gallagher(2A), Scott Vara and Aidan Flynn added assists. The Terriers
took too many penalties and were outworked by a much improved Bandits
squad. While not showing up on the score sheet, Matt Martin had
a solid game with three or four good scoring opportunities.
In the second game of the weekend the Terriers battled the ’01
South Shore Kings to the end. SSK won 5-2 but the Terriers had great
efforts top to bottom. Leading the way was goalie Cam Giunta who
made several spectacular saves including stoning Conor Lovett on
a penalty shot. Jeff Pollara had two goals with Teddy Griffin, Scott
Vara and Jacob Clark picking up assists. Across the board the ’01
Terriers played well in a high paced game. Herb Kopf and Michael
Tyer earn mention with strong play along the boards and excellent
penalty kill. The defense (Aidan Flynn, Max Ward, Liam McDonnell,
Ted Griffin and Tyler Morelli) played well against the talented
Kings.

of November 7th-8th
In a hard fought game with the ’01 Providence Capitals, a
shorthanded Terriers team lost 6-4 in Rhode Island today. The Terriers
played very well, led by solid goaltending by Cam Giunta and strong
efforts from all the players. Leading the score sheet were Jeff
Pollara (2G, 1A), Michael Tyer (2G) and Matthew Ryan (1G). Herb
Kopf (1A) and Jacob Clark (1A) filled out the scoring

of October 31st-November 1st
The 2001 Boston Junior Terriers lost to the Providence Capitals
today at the Dog Pound. Final score was 7-2 but does not reflect
a solid effort but the team. The game was tied 2-2 in the third
when the Capitals scored a power play goal to make it 3-2. Both
Terrier goals were delivered by Jeff Pollara including a beautiful
goal just 17 seconds into the game. Michael Tyer and Jacob Clark
had assists on Jeffrey’s first goal and Aidan Flynn who had
an excellent game assisted on the second. In net Mitchell Director
played very well for Terriers.
The 2001 Junior Terriers responded to yesterdays defeat with a terrific
8-1 win today over the Boston Junior Eagles at the Dog Pound. The
two clubs played to a 1-1 tie in the first period and then exploded
for four goals in four minutes of second with Jacob Clark potting
two on one shift. The score sheet was filled by Matthew Ryan (hat
trick), Jeffery Pollara (1 G, 3A), Herb Kopf (G, 1A) and Cullen
Gallagher. Aidan Flynn (2 A) had an impressive game, Peirce Kenney
(1A) and Scott Vara (1A) rounded out the point getters. Cam Giunta
played well in goal highlighted by stoning an Eagle on a breakaway.

of October 9th-11th
The ‘01 Junior Terriers played a solid game defeating the
’01 Bandits 7-3. Leading the way for the Terriers were Teddy
Griffin (2G, 1A), Matthew Ryan (2G, 1A), Jeff Pollara (1G, 1A),)
and Peirce Kenney (2A). Liam McDonnell potted his second of the
year when he rushed from his own blue line and buried a nifty goal.
Also making the score sheet was Scotty Vara (1G), with Tyler Morelli,
Cullen Gallagher and TJ Swirbalus adding assists.
REVIEW: Weekend
of September 25th-27th
The 2001 Junior Terriers rolled to a 9-0 win over Top Gun at the
Icenter in Salem, NH. on Saturday. Leading the way for the Terriers
were Jeff Pollara (2 goals), Scott Vara (2 goals) and Michael Tyer
(2 goals). Backstopping his second consecutive shutout was Cam Giunta.
A solid effort was provided by all of the ’01 boys.
The ’01 Terriers won a hard fought victory over a tough Bay
State Breakers squad on Sunday with a final score of 3-0. Top to
bottom every player contributed to a solid victory. Scoring for
the Terriers were Matthew Ryan (2 goals) and Max Ward. Cam Giunta
continued his solid play in net with a third straight shutout.
